Mardi Gras ( French for Fat Tuesday) has become a time to celebrate grandly before lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Celebrations are concentrated for about two weeks before and through Fat Tuesday.

Draped with Mardi Gras beads, whirls, and fleur de lis décor, Bourbon street and the French Quarter have become the hosts to many joyful and colorful tourists. The major parades however, are in the Uptown and Mid-City districts and follow a route along St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street, on the upriver side of the French Quarter.

Regardless of where you are from, you will be embraced by the happiest and most loving crowd. Every face has a smile, every smile has a name, and soon you will have made many friends. Whether you are there for the masquerade balls, parades, jazz, or to visit the historic treasures of New Orleans, you are guaranteed to walk away bewitched by the authentic spirit of New Orleans.

If you suspend logic you can find yourself believing that some of the formations, known as hoodoos, are sculptures of humans or like the Paiute Indians believed “hoodoos are Ancient Legend People”

Sculpted in the southwestern part of Utah, Bryce Canyon, is a national park where you can hike, camp, ski, take a horseback riding tour and reconnect with nature. Stand along the rim (over 8.000 feet high) and take in the rhythmic display of nature. At night, under the darkest sky “7.4 magnitude sky, making it one if the darkest in North America” you can stargaze, fall into the magic of the panorama- and if you are lucky awaken to the “red painted faces” of the mythological hoodoos.

Every Culture has its richness: its song, its voice, its rituals, its pain, its prayer, its dance, its inherent history that cannot be separated no matter how far we travel from its place of origin. Latinos have come together in the Unites States and these great infusions of culture have richly integrated to create a richer and greater song.

In recognition of these contributions September 15 through October 15, has become the month to celebrate the diversities and contributions that Latinos have made to the United States – Hispanic Heritage Month. Approved by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 and later extended to a 30 day period by Ronald Reagan, the United States officially acknowledged the contributions and celebrated the history of Latinos to the country.

Whether we are talking about a small community or larger one, it is its PEOPLE that shape it. Leaving behind loved ones, belongings, views of loved land, smells innate to their foods and climate, Latinos migrated to a “better place”. Some by choice, others from fear, many to pursue very basic human needs “survival-safety-curiosity”.

The United States opened its doors to Latin American communities, and with many unknowns and limitations, the cultures responded with great effort. The very differences of each culture transformed the Unites States into a more diverse, strong, rich, tolerant, and always developing Nation.

The significance of the month not only opens a door to the history and culture of Latinos, but also inspires us to learn and reflect on our place in our communities and the heritage each of us come from.

Islands usually carry a magic about them, Moorea undisputedly.

Wrapped in green foliage, surrounded by crystalline waters and blue velvety skies, Moorea is an Island where escapism lives. You can walk the white and black sand beaches , swim in soothing blue waters, snorkel in clear waters, walk through lush waterfalls and dine peacefully -entirely surrounded by water and the simplicity that rests upon the island.

At night the water will most likely reflect the temperament of the skies. The blues and greens turn from pink to purple to black, and the jagged mountains disappear into the night.

It is not an accident that the Island is shaped like a heart when seen from above, because for sure your heart will be romanced by the beauty of Moorea.

See a tasteful collection of Moorea in the French Polynesia.

A Trekker’s view-Torres Del Paine.

The journey began as a “rite of passage” in our trekking life. We had no idea what we were in for, only the expectation of reaching our final goal – The Twin Horns that so elegantly crown Torres del Paine at 6300ft.

Torres Del Paine National Park is located between the mountain range of the Andes and the Patagonian steppe. We set out early morning, 4Am to be exact. The sky still dark, our visibility limited, energy vibrant, our journey was right on schedule. Having many trails to choose from, we headed towards the one that matched our vigor-so we thought.

As dawn transformed into morning, it became more and more evident that this journey was not only going to be a visual utopia, but a return to those geological lessons trapped far into the corners of our mind. Here we were, standing within formations that were at least 12 million years old. How did these massive rocks materialize? How exactly could we embrace the ice age? ” How long did it take for the “earth’s movement” to settle into this massive geographical wonder? How had these glaciers settled with such graphic balance? Evidenced within these paths were Nature’s demonstrations of climate, time and change.

The trail was supposed to take 4 hours. It took well over 7. We had not anticipated the relationships we would develop with ourselves, nature and other hikers. Time disappears. You pass SLOWLY through rivers, creeks, beautiful wooden bridges, giant rocks, Magellanic forest, you see WITH PATIENCE and REVERIE colors only Nature can display, you breath in air- cold then warm, but most of all, you experience the energy of hikers- exhausted, exuberant, and full of joy only connectedness can produce.

This energy- force keeps moving you up and up until suddenly you realize that all the green has disappeared, there are no trees, no leaves, just rocks, huge rocks everywhere. It is like a desert of huge rocks, shaped in every form and shape. Then you feel this very cool breeze on your face and the sound of the wind-strong and merciless. You wonder why you have made this journey, but before you realize it, you are hit with the presence of the Towers. It is indescribable. You look up, then down and up again, you are lost in the mysticism of the moment. You can’t comprehend the power of nature-so huge, so perfect, so different. You stare at the Three Towers reflected on a lake, is it a painting? The movement of the lake reminds you of how tangible it is. You feel your heart beating faster and harder. You feel accomplishment. You feel a desire to scream. But as if someone had given a command, we all sat-in complete silence.

Located in northern Colombia, Cartagena is a Caribbean jewel. This colorful city, also known as Cartagena de Indias, is an important port, and a Paradise destination.

Cartagena: colonial city, seaport and jewel of the caribbean, unites old traditions with intimate pleasures. Cartagena is surrounded by walls and a fortress, built during the 17th century to protect the prosperous city from pirates and thieves. These walls are a reminder of the city’s history, but also add to the charm and intimacy of the city.

Wherever you walk, you will be faced with tradition; from its beautiful “balcones” to its music, to the traditional dances and of course its flavorful foods.
